When I first came to Sheffield I heard much about 'this pub that's owned by the drummer from Pulp.' Whenever I tried to go there though it was shut. This says more about my afternoon drinking habit than the great Washington however. Its heritage is certainly true, as the memorabilia on the walls suggests, but celeb affiliation aside it's still an excellent place to have a few beers and listen to your favourite Stones album. With new Northern Soul night 'Mook' the first Saturday of every month and Sunday's – very difficult – pop quiz The Washington is somewhere well worth missing the Family Affairs omnibus for.
