Nottingham Castle Museum

Elevated above the city skyline is this charming edifice: Nottingham's version of a castle. Albeit beautiful, it's no more a castle than holiday haemorrhoids are a pleasant incident. With no dungeons, moat, towers or excited actors dressed as knights, we find it difficult to recommend this as eligible. The original 'fortress' of Kevin Costner fame burnt down and this is its 17th century replacement. Granted, the view it offers is impressive but charging you for the privelidge is plain cheeky. Your best bet is to go half-an-hour before closing as it's completely free.
