Sherwood Forest & Visitor Centre
If you have seen Kevin Costner swinging through the branches of Hollywood's 'Sherwood Forest' then the real thing may be a bit of a letdown – especially on a damp, Midlands afternoon. The star attraction, the Major Oak, though clinging onto its zimmer-frame of supporting metalwork, remains an impressive sight and it's only a short walk from the Visitor Centre if nature isn't your thing. If it is, you're in luck as there's plenty of it here – punctuated by cafés, restaurants and opportunities to buy rather fetching green feathered caps.
