Caves of Nottingham
Nottingham's caves are not like most other natural caves. Oh no, ours are man-made and have been around for a little less time. Apparently, even as late as the mid-1600s, Notts folk didn't worry about mortgages or interest rates. If they wanted a new home, all they had to do was hack a cave house out of the soft rock and then nip down to Ikea for a rug or two. Although a lot of the remaining 200 or so caves are sadly no longer accessible, you can still view Mortimer's Hole under the castle and the city caves under the Broad Marsh shopping centre.
