Rufford Abbey Country Park

The Abbey was a 12th century Cistercian monastery and its ruins are said to be some the county's most haunted spots. If you're into spooks, pick up a leaflet from Tourist Information as the park hosts some brilliant events, including open-air concerts and theatre in the summer months. If you don't believe in ghosts, why not dress up as one and spend an afternoon walking out with your arms outstretched, moaning in a low voice, to see if you can scare anyone. Those with a taste for fires, register for one of their monthly fire-making sessions, though if you can't make it, these are perfectly easy to recreate with a large pile of tyres and a gallon of petrol.
