The Castle
It may be pricey for a pub, but it's well worth heaving your weary bones up Friar Lane and spending an extra pound or two on dinner if you're eating in town on a Sunday. The Castle's roasts are the best we've eaten this side of our own mother's. It's all there: meat, veggies, Yorkshire pud and gravy that doesn't taste like wallpaper paste. If you end up scoffing more than you should, you'll find their sofas the perfect place to sleep off some of the excess. The music's great and the staff are even greater, but don't tell anyone else, because we want to keep this one just for us.
