Itchy has heard that roller derby is currently the world's fastest
growing sport, with over 70 teams in the UK. The game involves one
skater from each team lapping members of the opposition for points (and
we don't mean lapping in any dodgy ways that you might be thinking...
it means overtaking. Ahem.) If you've seen Whip It! (the Drew Barrymore film
with all those women in long socks), you'll know. (And if you haven't
seen it - why not?!)
On February 11 Nottingham’s Hellfire Harlots will take on the canny Newcastle Roller Girls in a rock n roll themed, roller derby show down at Harvey Hadden. This exciting season opener has high stakes for the Hellfire Harlots as they battle to maintain their undefeated record.
Set to be the Harlots biggest challenge yet, Newcastle Roller Girls are an established league with two years bouting experience under their belts.
The first event of the day will be a mixed bout featuring skaters from teams across the UK - The Glams vs. The Goths - in a black eyeshadow and glitter clash for glory! Itchy can't wait to see who wins. Just play nicely, girls.
