Five Really Great Afternoon Dates in Nottingham
Can't wait till evening?
Feature
The Walk
Hidden away somewhere you’d never think to notice, The Walk is one of Nottingham’s gems, going so far as to name itself our best kept secret. This sailor-come-vintage-come-1950’s diner, complete with jukebox and tables plastered in newspaper clippings from way back when (actually an interesting read if your date isn’t going so well) is the perfect place to settle in for a chat, a cup of tea (or a thick shake, like we said – 1950’s) and a slice of cake, or even a hearty portion of perfectly cooked fish and triple cooked chips if you’re feeling peckish. Yum.
Lee Rosy’s
If you fancy the tea but would rather skip the meal then Lee Rosy’s is the place for you, especially if you’re into trying new flavours (there’s a whole range of exotic tastes to try) a twinkling fairy light lit backdrop and a vintage bohemian feel all pulled together by the eclectic clientele. We recommend a pot of English Breakfast (traditional is always a good go to, especially on a first date) a portion of vanilla cheesecake, and a rush downstairs to grab the snuggly corner under the stairs that boasts a sofa and a view.
All Things Chocolate
All Things Chocolate is, as the name suggests, the local chocolate lovers dream. Basically, the perfect place for an afternoon rendezvous as long as neither party is on a diet, and neither of you mind being weighed down by what might be the world’s thickest hot chocolate, which tastes like a mug of melted Dairy Milk. High backed chairs and a free chocolate of your choice with every drink adds a nice finishing touch - you can even buy a box of something scrumptious on your way out of the door.
Broadway Cinema
If you’re looking for something a bit arty, a bit different, or just somewhere you can hide your nerves from that special someone whilst still spending a bit of time together, then Broadway is for you. The cinema that local art types flock to, Broadway has a romantic feel, and with big squashy chairs in the main theatre, many with dedications written on the back along the lines of ‘Can I hold your hand? Happy anniversary!’, it is the perfect place for a cuddly afternoon indoors.
Dolce
Ah the foody one, there had to be one didn’t there? After all, there are three meals in a day, and if you aren’t planning on anything big in the evening then why not reverse your meal plan and fill up in the afternoon instead? As the name may have given away, Dolce is a little Italian bistro, independent and all mood lighting and bottled wine. The food is divine, you can usually get a table without a reservation, and with dinner and wine for £7.95 before 7pm (averaging a saving of £10 per head) there’s really no reason not to.
So there you have it, five reasons to rearrange that date to a friendlier time of day.
Happy dating!
